2. 😳 Big, scary, and hairy visions
Intentionally intimidating yourself sounds like a great idea... right?
👆🏼 Listen to this post read aloud by yours truly
A note to my new subscribers: Thank you so much for giving me permission to invade your email inbox every week and share the things that consume my mind. I promise to do my best to make every entry worth your time.
For the last year or so, my wife and I have been working on developing a vision for our family and this process has proven itself to be so valuable in defining who The Waldron Family is.
Apparently, vision setting for what you believe your family is called to do for the Kingdom of God is not exactly easy. This journey has been particularly challenging for us because there are SO MANY things we can envision our family representing, doing, and living out for God’s kingdom.
But the whole purpose of setting a Family Vision is to focus our attention and energy on exactly what we believe God has called us to do for His kingdom.
In the same way, I personally have been working on exactly what I believe God has called me to do for His kingdom. Again, this process hasn’t been so easy either.
So, if you don’t mind; I would love to share with you the mission of my life, the role’s I’m called to fill, and the big, scary, hairy, audacious, goals (or BSHAGs) I have set for myself for the glory of God and the good of others.1
So, let’s start at the very top, the foundational reason for my existence and my life:
My Mission
As a believer, there is really only one foundational reason for me to exist. And that is to Glorify God. That’s it. Everything I do in my life, every moment I breathe, and every role God has called me to fill—is purely to bring glory to Him.
While we’re thinking about the roles God has called me to fill let me quickly share what those are and why they’re so important.
My Roles
When I think about the big buckets or big areas of my life where the Lord is calling me to be a leader, my brain goes to the relationship with my wife, the responsibility of raising our daughter, and the impact I can make externally in this world.
So, my roles (at least in this season of life) are a Husband, a Father, and an Entrepreneur.
A husband, because the relationship with my wife is a direct representation of Christ’s love for the Church and, embodying this message to my wife, our children, and the people around us is what we signed up for when we slid rings on our fingers.
A father, because the relationship with my children and the impact I have in their lives (whether taken advantage of or not) will have generational and eternal results.
And an entrepreneur, because the calling to serve and love others with purpose through products and services has always been near to my heart and doing this is kingdom work.
For each of these roles I believe there are specific goals that will make the greatest impact for the kingdom of God and the benefit of others.
My BSHAGs: Big Scary Hairy Audacious Goals
Each goal I have is directly tied to furthering the roles I believe God is calling me to fill in my life. These goals are supposed to be intimidating, inspiring, and gracious if I fail. We all know what happens when we aim high and miss.
As a Husband I want to: Love Helen as Christ loves the church
Okay. Here we go. Setting a goal to live out a perfect love from an imperfect heart… I’m crazy right? Despite how incredible and undeserving I am of my wife’s love, I know I won’t ever hit this goal 100% but I’m so excited to see how close I miss.
As a Father I want to: Lead Lani into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ
Again, I have no idea how on earth I am going to do this. But what I do know is that our family vision and our intentionality is going to be key in her growing up and becoming fully devoted and committed to the Lord and His calling on her life. I absolutely can’t wait to see her future.
Finally, as an Entrepreneur I want to: Earn $250,000 a year by 2026
I think by now you’re getting the point of these big, scary, hairy, audacious goals. This right here is completely outside of my mind’s eye. I have no conceivable image in my head when I think about this amount of financial capital. All I know is that the financial freedom, inheritance building, and the magnitude of generosity will bring glory to God and bring good to others.2
Conclusion
So there you go—a deeper look into what my brain is thinking about when deciding what to do today in reference to where I want to be in the future.
I highly encourage you, no matter what season of life you’re in, to sit down and think about where the Lord is calling you to be in the future and allow Him to speak to your mission, roles, and goals for your life.
Don’t be afraid to miss—there is grace for you.
📸 Shot(s) I’m MOST PROUD of this week
I love this shot of our Pastor at Westgate Church—I recently shared it as Day 52 of my daily photography challenge on Instagram. One of The Waldron Family’s highlights of the week in engaging in corporate worship and devotion to the Lord with our church family. We LOVE Westgate!
📜 Scripture I’m SOAKING in this week
The book of Joshua; I honestly feel like I’m in the “not so interesting” chapters right now. Recent chapters have been pretty much inheritance descriptions for each tribe of Israel. However, even in the midst of the seemingly mundane, the Lord is teaching me about inheritances.
Here is a simple thought from my Journal this week:
Clearly define the inheritances of your children
🎧 Music I’m JAMMING to this week
Tom Petty brings back a lot of memories with my mom to mind. She would occasionally play it and sing it to the top of her lungs as we were in the car.
Very similar feelings arise in my heart when I listen to Dreams as when I listen to Tom Petty—My mom loved it, and so do I.
Those that spend time with me on a regular basis know that Gable Price & Friends is my favorite band of all time. This song never fails to get me motivated and excited for what the Lord is doing in my life.
📚 Book(s) I’m LOVING this week
Redeeming Your Time; Jordan Raynor
I’m currently participating in a coaching community with Jordan and we’re going through this incredible book one chapter every week—so this book will probably be here for a little while.
On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness; Andrew Peterson
My wife and I are reading through this book every week on our long Tuesday drives and the further we get into this fantasy world, the more we fall in love with the Igiby children.
📺 TV I’m DEVOTED to watching this week
Holy cow. I don’t know where to begin with this cartoon kid show. My wife and I binged both seasons and the hour and a half movie this week. If I were to try and summarize the entire story so far, it’s deeply founded in a mother/daughter relationship and ultimately a mother’s love for her child.
Also, to my masculinity’s demise, I may have cried over an animal in a kid’s cartoon tv show. It’s really really good.

Shout out to Jordan Raynor for the beautiful wording of “glory of God and good of others” it really sums up the foundational purpose of work on this side of eternity.
Please hear my heart here… I am in no way saying you cannot be generous without a stupid salary. What I am saying is that the sheer magnitude of generosity will just be absolutely insane and impactful for the kingdom and others.
I love you! This is amazing! You are the best husband I could ever ask for. ❤️❤️
